One of the purposes of this blog is to take note of and reflect on the events in the Catholic world and especially the Franciscan Renewal of Pope Francis. I have to admit, it is impossible to keep up with the fast pace of events.
On Thursday the Holy Father addressed the the problem directly in his World Communications Day message noting that, “the speed with which information is communicated exceeds our capacity for reflection and judgement.” Indeed, without reflection and judgement we cannot take proper actions.
Noting that the media is capable of creating fruitful dialogue but also of erecting barriers to communication, Pope Francis has asked for a slow down to take time to listen to others with openness and respect. One of the ancient titles for the Pope is Pontifex Maximus (The Great Bridge Builder). He is calling on the media to realize its great potential to build bridges not barriers.
