As we approach the end of our Catholic Schools Week observance I must reiterate my appreciation for all those who are so committed to the mission of Catholic education, and, they are legion.
Your Catholic school is an example of a Christian community at work. Beginning with the students who have been given their first faith formation by their parents and then entrusted to the teachers, administrators and staff to broaden their horizon based on Gospel values which they will carry through their lifetimes.
In today’s high tech world, Catholic schools must provide the tools and knowledge needed to succeed. As a result, the cost of a Catholic education can be a real burden on a family.
Recognizing the need for financial assistance for many families, funds are raised through the annual Bishop Farrell Invitational Golf Tournament which, last year, raised more than $400,000 in scholarships. Thus, the students are the real winners.
Countless others have given generously of their time and their treasure to support their parochial school or Catholic high school. For all these wonderful people and those who work quietly behind the scenes, I am deeply grateful.
