Advent is a time of joyful expectancy. It is also a time of restrained anxiety as we wait and prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
It is an ever-old yet ever-new part of our Christian life cycle. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.
We celebrate the beginning and live in anticipation of the end. This Advent we will continue the very ancient custom of recalling how the joyful anticipation began with the prophets of the Old Testament.
We will do this here on my blog by reflecting on the seven O Antiphons which are sung before the Magnificat at Vespers during the Octave before Christmas, Dec. 17-23, with Dec. 24 being Christmas Eve and Vespers for that evening being for the Christmas Vigil.
Please join me here on Sunday, December 2, the First Sunday of Advent, as we begin this traditional observance of the Lord’s coming.
