It is graduation time again, another one of alpha and omega moments, when we must surrender something in order to take up something new.
I congratulate our high school graduates; more than a thousand from our Catholic high schools and thousands more from public and private schools. Transitions are always difficult and for our high school graduate the transition to college or the workforce means more than giving up friends and the excitement that goes with school activities and sports.
For many, it means entering a whole new culture and giving up the old and comfortable one. Your parents, your family and your teachers have shepherded your life from child to young adult with loving care. Now, as you move into adulthood, their love and their lessons will help you in shaping your future.
For the graduate, the future is a blank slate, awaiting your life’s story. What challenges are ahead? What choices will you make? One thing is certain; the slate will not remain blank. What an opportunity!
Wherever the future takes you, your life will be enriched by the values of your Catholic faith which is never challenged by truth but rather seeks the truth in every intellectual pursuit
