There is a famous Latin maxim: Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi, Lex Vivendi: How We Worship Is How We Believe Is How We Live. Pope Benedict XVI wrote in 2007 “The Church’s faith is essentially a Eucharistic faith, and it is especially nourished at the table of the Eucharist. Faith and the sacraments are two complementary aspects of ecclesial life. (The Sacrament of Charity)
This week clergy, liturgists and catechists from 27 dioceses will gather in Dallas for the 2012 Study Week sponsored by the Southwest Liturgical Conference (SWLC). It will be the 50th anniversary of the founding of the SWLC Study Week that was first hosted by the Diocese of Dallas in 1963. It is the oldest continuous regional liturgical conference in the United States.
Good liturgy does not just happen; it must be carefully planned within the guidelines of the Church. In the words of the Holy Father: “Worship cannot come from our imagination: that would be a cry in the darkness or mere self-affirmation. True liturgy supposes that God responds and shows us how we can adore Him.”
At the Eucharist we gather as the Body of Christ to celebrate the Body of Christ, or as St. Augustine put it ‘’in the Eucharist we receive what we are and we become what we receive.”
We welcome the participants in next week’s study week and we commend them for their important contribution to the Church.
