Congratulations to the new Bishop of Austin

January 26, 2010 By Bishop Kevin J. Farrell

Congratulations to Bishop Joe S. Vasquez and the Catholics of the Diocese of Austin upon his appointment as Fifth Bishop of Austin. Bishop Vasquez has served as Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston-Houston since 2002. A native of Stamford, Texas, Bishop Vasquez succeeds Bishop Gregory Aymond, who was named Archbishop of New Orleans. This is the second episcopal appointment for Texas this month. On January 18 Monsignor W. Michael Mulvey of the Diocese of Austin was named Bishop of Corpus Christi.
